January edition of the UN & You from Jimmy Walters

Hello All,

I am sharing with you the January edition of the UN & You from the Sisters of Charity Federation UN NGO Representative Jimmy Walters.

In this newsletter, Jimmy shares a reflection about the importance of “wintering” or taking time for rest and contemplation over the winter months. This allows us to deepen ourselves spiritually as we engage is the important work of justice and provides grounding for our response to the needs of the world. This is important wisdom at this time!

Jimmy shares about the coming Commission for Social Development at the UN Headquarters in New York on February 2-10. The theme this year is “Advancing Social Development and Social Justice through Coordinated, Equitable, and Inclusive Policies.” The Commission will also include the Civil Society Forum, which is always an important opportunity for civil society representatives to come together, share their practices, and engage with state representatives. Usually, as the Marthas’ UN NGO Liaison, I would attend this in person, along with other participants. This year, I’m not able to be at the Commission, but I certainly will be following it online and will share more information about how to watch ahead of the opening.

Finally, Jimmy shares helpful resources that provide in depth information on current global conflicts.

We are all very conscious of the need for peace right now, so as we learn more, we offer our prayers for an end to violence and the building of peace in our hearts and communities.

I hope you find this January UN & You inspiring and helpful, as we work together as global citizens for peace and justice in our world. Thank you, as always, for your prayers and support!

Blessings,

Darlene
